After 23 days in theaters, “Nha Ba Nu” (Nu’s Family) has grossed VND421.2 billion ($17.86 million), becoming the highest-grossing Vietnamese film of all time.

"Nha Ba Nu" tells the story of Nu ( played by Le Giang), the owner of a crab soup shop and a stern mother facing the pressure of providing for her family. Due to heartbreaks that she suffered in the past, Nu forbids her youngest romantic daughter, Ngoc Nhi (Uyen An), from having a relationship.

Nhi doesn't listen to her mother but instead dates John (Song Luan), a Vietnamese who lives abroad. The climax comes when Nhi gets pregnant and leaves her family to live with John but soon realizes that she made the wrong decision.

While the movie was praised for its depiction of family problems, it has been criticized for the storyline and narrative-heavy dialogue.

The two Vietnamese movies with the biggest-ever revenues, "Nha Ba Nu" and "Bo Gia" (Dad, I’m Sorry), were both directed, produced, written, and acted in by Tran Thanh.

"Bo Gia" earned a revenue of VND420 billion in Vietnam and $17.4 million in North America.

While "Nha Ba Nu" dominated, "Chi Chi Em Em 2" (Sister Sister 2) achieved strong results, grossing VND106.8 million and generating profit.

The success of "Nha Ba Nu" and "Chi Chi Em Em 2" revived the movie scene in Vietnam after hibernating in 2021 and flopping in 2022.
