HCMC to host Asia's first skateboard-street art exhibition

An exhibition showcasing the intersection of skateboarding and street art to be held in Ho Chi Minh City on Friday will the first of its kind in Asia.

The opening ceremony of ‘Spraying Board Vietnam’ at the Institute of Cultural Exchange with France (Idecaf) in District 1 will be at 7 p.m.

It will feature 40 skateboard decks that have been transformed into unique artworks by four Vietnamese and six French artists. They used new skateboards made from less common materials and covered with white as canvases to create new and unique designs.

Bouda, a French artist of Vietnamese origin, will make a personal appearance at the event.

A muralist and illustrator living in Paris, her inspiration often comes from the architecture and cultural diversity of big cities.

Other skateboard decks that will be exhibited are by France's Bambi Bakbi, Don Mateo, Babs, Dodo Ose, and Le Monstr and Vietnamese artists Amm Banhmi, Vuiqa (Dinh Nhat Khang) and Cresk (Nguyen Tan Luc).

The opening night will feature professional skateboarding performances, a skateboarding experience corner, live DJs, and other events.

Organized by The Institut Français Vietnam and L'association Superposition in France, the exhibition will go on until April 3.
