The head of a Hanoi real estate company was arrested on a passenger bus in central Vietnam Wednesday for land sale shenanigans regarding the Phan Thiet-Dau Giay Expressway project.

Nguyen Duc Tuan, 50, general director of the Thang Long Land Real Estate Investment Company based in Hanoi, was arrested by police forces of Binh Dinh and Quang Ngai Provinces while riding on the bus on the National Highway 1.

"We learned that Tuan was on the bus, so we requested the driver to stop the vehicle and arrested Tuan," said Ho Van Thu, head of the Quang Ngai traffic police forces.

Tuan was riding on the bus which usually carries workers in industrial parks. Tuan was reportedly surprised upon being caught, though he eventually cooperated with the police. He has been brought to Binh Dinh pending an investigation.

Late last year, the police of Binh Dinh received a report from 47-year-old Nguyen Huu An, accusing the Thang Long Land company of appropriating his assets.

When Tuan was signing a contract regarding a land sale along the Phan Thiet-Dau Giay Expressway project in southern Vietnam with An, he used two fake contracts to make An transfer him VND500 million ($20,389).

Afterwards, Tuan did not finish approval procedures or followed the content of the signed contracts. An tried to contact him multiple times, only to find out that the Thang Long Land company was no longer active and Tuan was not in the area.

Tuan was wanted by the police of Binh Dinh for appropriating property at the end of January.
