Five football players of the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Club, competing in V-League 2, have been accused of match fixing for online gambling.

Police of Ba Ria-Vung Tau on Thursday said the players, aged 20-30, were being investigated for gambling.

An investigation revealed that in a match between the Ba Ria-Vung Tau and SHB Da Nang at the Ba Ria Stadium on Dec. 24, 2023, the players had agreed with each other to not use their full strength during the match.

The group had previously placed bets on football gambling websites that their opponents would "win". The final score was 3-1 to SHB Da Nang Club.

V-League 2 has 11 teams, and is operated by the Vietnam Professional Football Association.
