A Chinese man in central Phu Yen Province has been arrested for stealing jewelry right after he finished a 9-month jail sentence for a similar crime.

Huang LinZhong, 48, was arrested by Phu Yen police on Friday to be investigated for theft. The arrest was made at the Vinh Quang prison in Vinh Phuc, right after Huang finished his 9-month jail sentence for theft.

On May 17 last year, Huang entered Vietnam via the border in Lang Son, before traveling to Ho Chi Minh City to purchase a motorbike. Two weeks later, Huang traveled to Phu Yen and decided to steal things because he did not have any money.

He went to a jewelry shop in Tuy Hoa City and asked to see five gold necklaces. He then stole one necklace worth VND44 million ($1,784), and returned the rest to the shopkeeper. The theft was exposed after the shop checked the camera footage and reported it to authorities.

As he was traveling north, Huang visited Hue to sell the stolen necklace for VND16 million. He then stole jewellery from another shop. For this crime, he was arrested and sentenced to 9 months in jail.
