Ride hailing company Grab will impose a surcharge of VND5,000-15,000 (US$0.21-0.64) on fares during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holidays later this month.

A VND5,000 surcharge will apply to GrabBike (motorbike-taxi), GrabFood (food delivery), GrabMart (shopping delivery), and Grab Express (fast delivery) between January 20 and 26.

A surcharge of VND15,000 on GrabCar fares will apply during the same period.

Grab said the surcharge is needed to improve service quality amid rising demand.

The Lunar New Year holidays to mark the country’s biggest festival are from January 20 to 26 this year.

Other ride-hailing and delivery platforms like Gojek, Be and Baemin have not announced Tet surcharges.
