Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index ended its three-session gaining streak with a 0.41 percent drop to 1,461. 5 points Tuesday, though trading value remains high.

The index went sideways in a narrow band and closed 6 points lower after rising nearly 23 points in the last three sessions.

Trading value on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), on which the index is based, fell 4.6 percent to VND29.99 trillion ($1.33 billion).

The VN30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 20 tickers in the red, led by GAS of state-owned Petrovietnam Gas with a 3.1 percent drop.

MSN of conglomerate Masan Group fell 2.8 percent, while BID of state-owned lender BIDV lost 2.1 percent.

Other losers included PNJ of Phu Nhuan Jewelry and POW of electricity producer Petrovietnam Power Corporation, both dropping 1.9 percent.

Nine blue chip tickers gained, with HDB of HDBank rising 2.6 percent and BVH of insurance company Bao Viet Holdings increasing by 2 percent.

Foreign investors were net buyers for the third straight session to the tune of VND7.6 billion, with strongest pressure on HPG of steelmaker Hoa Phat Group and CTG of state-owned lender VietinBank.

The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, gained 0.12 percent while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market rose 0.14 percent.
