Sun Group was honored at the World Travel Awards for Asia-Oceania, in Ho Chi Minh City, on Sept. 7.

For the first time, Sun Group was nominated for Asia's Leading Integrated Tourism Group 2022 at World Travel Awards (WTA). In addition, Asia's Leading Hospitality Development Company 2022 title was given to Sun Hospitality Group, a resort brand under Sun Group.

WTA 2022 also honored four hotels invested by Sun Group: Capella Hanoi as Asia's Leading Luxury Boutique Hotel; New World Resort Phu Quoc as Asia's Leading Family Beach Resort; Premier Village Ha Long Bay Resort as Asia's Leading Family Villa Resort and J.W Marriott Phu Quoc Resort as Asia's Leading Luxury Wedding Resort.

Since its inception in 1993, WTA has been held annually to honor the best service providers in the travel and tourism industries. The WTA has been compared to the "Oscars of global tourism" by The Wall Street Journal.

"This award will be a great motivation for us to continue our path of 'beautifying the lands' with more classy products and services, gradually changing and elevating the position of Vietnam tourism on the global map," said Dang Minh Truong, chairman of the director board of Sun Group.

Sun Group, which is one of the few private Vietnamese companies investing in resort and entertainment tourism, requires high investment capital but has a longer payback period.

Founded in Ukraine by Vietnamese students, Sun Group returned to Vietnam in 2007 and chose Da Nang to commence business.

The group has developed several destinations in Da Nang including Sun World Ba Na Hills – Vietnam’s Leading Theme Park (as awarded by WTA), Golden Bridge, Asia Park - Premier Village Danang resort, Mercure Danang French Village Bana Hills hotel, and InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula resort. Up to now, Sun Group's resort and entertainment tourism ecosystems have brought transformation to many destinations in Vietnam.

In Lao Cai, Sun Group contributes to creating changes in Sa Pa with the record-breaking Fansipan cable car project, Sun World Fansipan Legend, and the 5-star Hotel de la Coupole MGallery Sa Pa.

Total revenue from tourism in Sa Pa increased nearly three times, reaching VND4,000 billion in 2018, more than 10 times that of 2010.

"Since 2016, Sa Pa tourism has increased by 20-30% annually on average. About seven people ride the Fansipan cable car for every 10 visitors to Sa Pa," said Vuong Trinh Quoc, chairman of the Sa Pa Town People's Committee.

In Quang Ninh, Sun Group's entire tourism ecosystem is fully converging, including the transportation facilities for tourism like Van Don Airport, Ha Long International Passenger Port, Ha Long-Van Don, Van Don-Mong Cai Expressway, Sun World Ha Long, Premier Village Ha Long Bay resort and Yoko Onsen Quang Hanh.

This ecosystem has also made a substantial contribution to Quang Ninh's tourism industry. Before Covid-19, Quang Ninh tourism experienced outstanding growth between 2015 and 2019, with an 82% increase in visitors and a 346% increase in revenue.

Sun Group's imprint is clearly reflected in Phu Quoc.

The group has developed nearly 50 structures and dramatically transformed the South Island with a Mediterranean town complex, Hon Thom cable car, Sun World Phu Quoc, JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay, and other opulent resorts like Sun Premier Village The Eden Bay, Premier Village Phu Quoc resort, Premier Residences Phu Quoc Emerald Bay, and Kiss Bridge in the near future.

The number of visitors to Phu Quoc surged from 1.45 million to 5.1 million, an approximate 252%, between 2016 and 2019, when Sun Group opened its first project, the JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay.

According to Graham Cooke, chairman of the WTA, there are few companies in the world like Sun Group that take initiative in the sector of integrated tourism development.

The self-development of airports, ports, luxury resorts, five-star hotel chains, wellness tourism destinations, and theme parks are respectable achievements.

"Sun Group deserves to be named Asia's Leading Integrated Tourism Group," said Cooke.

"I see the group taking lifestyle development for passengers seriously - a vital aspect of inclusive tourism at a high level."

The growth of Sun Group has also contributed to adding new prestige to Vietnam's tourism over the last 15 years.

With the World's most luxurious resorts, Asia's leading international passenger port and so on, Vietnam has been named by Cruise Passenger as one of the leading luxury destinations throughout Asia.
