SC VivoCity Shopping Mall, located in Ho Chi Minh City's District 7, has achieved the prestigious LEED Gold Certification for Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance (v4.1) from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

This recognition positions SC VivoCity among a select group of shopping malls in Vietnam excelling in sustainable operations.

The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for existing buildings focuses on performance improvements and sustainable practices during the operation and maintenance phases. It evaluates areas such as water and energy efficiency, waste management, transportation, material quality, and indoor air quality. This is distinct from LEED certifications for new construction or interior design projects, which assess sustainability during building or renovation phases.

Since its opening in 2015, SC VivoCity has continuously enhanced its sustainability practices, particularly in energy conservation. Notably, in 2021, the mall installed a renewable energy system, resulting in a 6.8% reduction in total electricity consumption.

Do Huu Nhat Quang, co-founder of Green Building Consultancy Company Limited (Green Viet), highlighted the significance of SC VivoCity's achievement: "This certification sets a new benchmark for environmental responsibility in the shopping mall real estate sector. It demonstrates the increasing commitment of businesses to green transformation, contributing positively to Vietnam's and the world's sustainable development goals."

Andre Lim, General Director of Vietsin Commercial Complex Development Joint Stock Company (VCCD)—the developer of SC VivoCity—emphasized the mall's commitment to sustainability as a core value of its development strategy. "Receiving the LEED Gold certification is a testament to our ongoing efforts to optimize operations, maintain resource efficiency, and contribute to sustainable development," he said.

Lim also reaffirmed VCCD's dedication to Vietnam's green transformation strategy and the nation's goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

SC VivoCity is a one-stop lifestyle hub catering to families, locals, and expatriates in Ho Chi Minh City. Spanning five storeys along Nguyen Van Linh Boulevard, the mall offers a diverse array of experiences, including fashion, dining, entertainment, education, and a Cineplex. It is part of the 4.4-hectare Saigon South Place development, which will also feature Grade-A office buildings and serviced apartments upon completion.

Jointly developed by Saigon Co.op Investment Development Joint Stock Company and Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd., SC VivoCity continues to prioritize environmental sustainability, setting a new standard for green operations in Vietnam's retail landscape.
