Vietnam's benchmark VN-Index rose 0.52% to 1,251.51 points Wednesday.

The index closed 6.45 points higher after dropping 1.54 points in the previous session.

Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange increased by 28% to VND17.570 trillion (US$655.8 million).

The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 19 tickers gained.

VNM of dairy giant Vinamilk went up 5.8%, HDB of HDBank increased by 4.0%, and GAS of state-owned Petrovietnam Gas closed 3.5% higher.

Nine blue chips fell. PLX saw a 2.55% decline, followed by HPG of steelmaker Hoa Phat Group with a 2.51% decrease and VRE of retail real estate arm Vincom Retail, down 0.8%.

Foreign investors were net seller to the tune of VND605 billion, mainly selling VIC of private conglomerate Vingroup and MWG of electronics retail chain Mobile World.

The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, fell 0.22%, while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market went down 0.19%.
