Vietnam's benchmark VN-Index rose for the fifth consecutive session on Wednesday to reach a historic peak of 1,782.82 points.

The index closed 10.67 points, or 0.6%, higher after gaining 21.12 points in the previous session.

Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange decreased by 4% to VND24.3 trillion (US$923.6 million).

The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 18 tickers gained.

VHM of property giant Vinhomes saw the biggest gain of 6.9%, followed by STB of lender Sacombank with 4.8% and SHB of Saigon Hanoi Commercial Bank, up 3.7%

Eleven blue chips fell. DGC of Duc Giang Chemicals Group lost 5.2%, VJC of budget airline Vietjet went down 3.6% and VNM of dairy giant Vinamilk closed 1.8% lower.

Foreign investors were net buyers to the tune of VND1.08 trillion, mainly buying STB and VHM.

The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, fell 1.12%, while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market went down 0.04%.
