The index closed 4.8 points higher after dropping 0.2 points in the previous session.
Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange increased by 12% to VND18.73 trillion (US$733 million).
The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 14 tickers gained.
HPG of steelmaker Hoa Phat Group went up 2.5%, followed by VCB of state-owned lender Vietcombank with a 1.8% increase.
SSB of SeABank and SSI of brokerage SSI Securities Corporation both gained 1%.
Thirteen blue chips dropped. VNM of dairy giant Vinamilk fell by 1.4% and PLX of fuel distributor Petrolimex closed 0.7% lower.
Foreign investors were net sellers to the tune of VND639 billion, mainly STB of Ho Chi Minh City-based lender Sacombank and TPB of private TPBank.
The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, rose 0.33%, while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market went up 0.09%.
