The index closed 2.51 points higher after gaining 0.29 points in the previous session.
Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange decreased by 8% to VND23.85 trillion ($937 million).
The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 12 tickers gained.
VPB of private lender VPBank led with a 3.7% rise, followed by TCB of the largest private lender Techcombank, up 2.7%.
BCM of Becamex Investment and Industrial Development gained 2.1% and SSB of SeABank closed 1.5% higher.
Fourteen blue chips fell. VRE of retail real estate arm Vincom Retail declined by 1.9% and BID of state-owned lender BIDV closed 1.3% lower.
Foreign investors were net sellers to the tune of VND991 billion, mainly selling FPT of IT giant FPT Corporation and VRE of retail real estate arm Vincom Retail.
The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, rose 0.16%, while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market went up 0.92%.
