The index closed 4.02 points higher after dropping 0.79 points in the previous session.
Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange decreased by 20% to VND17.848 trillion (US$702.4 million).
The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 13 tickers gained.
SAB of brewer Sabeco gained 3.7%, followed by POW of electricity producer Petrovietnam Power Corporation with a 3.0% growth and TCB of private lender Techcombank, up 2.3%.
Twelve blue chips fell. VRE of retail real estate arm Vincom Retail lost 1.3%, PLX of fuel distributor Petrolimex slid 1.0% and TPB of lender TPBank closed 0.8% lower.
Foreign investors were net seller to the tune of VND477 billion, mainly selling FPT of IT giant FPT Corporation and TCB of Techcombank.
The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, rose 0.33%, while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market went up 0.55%.
