The index closed 14.4 points higher after rising 11.1 points Wednesday.
Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange, on which the index is based, rose 2.46% to VND22.69 trillion ($892 million).
The VN30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 24 tickers in the green.
TCB of the largest private lender Techcombank led with a 3.7% rise, followed by HDB of HDBank, up 3%, and CTG of state-owned lender VietinBank, up 2.6%.
Four blue chips fell. MWG of electronics retail chain Mobile World dropped 1.5% and BCM of Becamex Investment and Industrial Development closed 0.9% lower.
Foreign investors were net buyers to the tune of VND6 billion, mainly buying MWG and NLG of real estate developer Nam Long Investment Corp.
The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, rose 0.52% while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market gained 0.65%.
