Vietnam gold prices jumped to a new historic record Tuesday afternoon as global rates surged to a new peak.

Saigon Jewelry Company gold bar increased by 0.67% to VND166.1 million (US$6,324.12) per tael. A tael equals 37.5 grams or 1.2 ounces.

Gold ring went up 0.80% to VND163.5 million per tael. Gold prices in Vietnam have risen 8.7% since the beginning of the year.

Globally gold jumped past $4,700 per ounce ‌for the first time on Tuesday, while silver traded near a record high, as U.S. President Donald Trump's threats to slap extra tariffs on European allies soured global sentiment and sparked a rush into safe-haven assets, Reuters reported.

Spot gold gained 1% to $4,717.03 per ounce, having hit an all-time high of $4,721.91 earlier. U.S. gold ‌futures for February delivery climbed 2.8% to $4,722.70 per ounce.

Gold prices have rallied more than 70% since Trump began his second term a year ‌ago, ‌while silver has catapulted more than 200%.
