Vietnam gold prices rose Thursday morning, extending their gains for more than a week and narrowing the gap with their level at the start of the year.

Saigon Jewelry Company gold bar went up 0.07% to VND150.4 million (US$5,763.10) per tael. A tael equals 37.5 grams or 1.2 ounces.

Gold ring fell 0.52% to VND152.4 million per tael. Gold prices in Vietnam have fallen 1.57% so far this year.

Globally gold added 0.61% to $4,622.71 following a decline on Wednesday after U.S. inflation data came largely in ‌line with expectations, increasing bets on a Federal Reserve interest-rate hike next month, while investors also awaited remarks from Chairman Kevin Warsh this week, Reuters reported.

"I think the uptrend in gold is beginning to reassert itself. So I do see potential back above $5,000 this year," said Peter Grant, vice president and senior metals strategist at Zaner Metals.

He added that there is potential for gold to reach new all-time highs by the second quarter of 2027.
