Vietnamese gold prices soared to new highs on Friday, marking their 11th consecutive gain.

Saigon Jewelry Company gold bar price climbed 0.37% to VND134.4 million (US$5,092.36) per tael of 37.5 grams or 1.2 ounces.

The precious metal has risen by 59.6% so far this year and is nearly VND21 million per tael higher than global bullion rates.

Gold ring surged by 0.39% to VND129.2 million per tael.

Globally, gold held steady on Friday after retreating from an all-time high in the previous session, Reuters reported.

Gold added 0.2% to around $3,552 per ounce, retracing part of Thursday's 0.4% decline as the market steadied following a breathless, seven-day 6.3% rally to a record peak of $3,578.50 on Wednesday.

December gold futures fell $17.30, or 0.48%, and slipped another $4.20 in after-hours trading to $3,598.40, according to Kitco News. The U.S. non-farm payrolls report is due on Friday.

"With Fed rate cut expectations already largely priced in (...) Any shift in that outlook would directly impact the dollar and, by extension, gold," said David Meger, director of metals trading at High Ridge Futures.

Gold, a non-yielding asset, tends to perform well in low interest rate environments and during periods of uncertainty.
