Gold prices fell in Vietnam on Tuesday morning but slipped on global markets.

Saigon Jewelry Company gold bar dropped 0.55% to VND143.5 million (US$5,538.08) per tael. A tael equals 37.5 grams or 1.2 ounces.

Gold ring gained 0.07% to VND143.5 million per tael. Gold prices in Vietnam have fallen more than 6% since the beginning of the year.

Globally gold inched up 0.23% to $4,180.60 per ounce. Markets largely see the Fed keeping interest rates on hold later this month, but assign 87.7% probability of a hike by December, according to CME's FedWatch tool, as reported by Reuters.

In a high-interest-rate environment, investors tend to favour yield-bearing assets over gold.

Oil prices rose to near two-week highs on Monday as attacks on Saudi Arabia overshadowed possible further supplies to the market after US President Donald Trump hailed fresh Russian diesel exports and a Russia-Ukraine energy ceasefire.
