Vietnam gold price Tuesday morning dropped to the lowest since Dec. 9, following a plunge of the precious metal on global markets as investors took profits.

Saigon Jewelry Company gold bar fell 2.4% to VND154.2 million (US$5,872.17) per tael. A tael equals 37.5 grams or 1.2 ounces.

Gold ring tumbled 2.1% to VND150.9 million per tael. Gold price in Vietnam has risen 83% since the beginning of the year.

Globally spot gold fell 4.5% Monday before recovering slightly by 0.75% Tuesday.

"All the metals moved up to recent and all-time highs. We are seeing profit-taking pullbacks off of those spectacularly high levels," said David Meger, director of metals trading at High Ridge Futures, as cited by Reuters.

Gold has surged about 65% this year. Platinum and palladium are also on track for annual gains. Silver has outperformed all with a 147% gain so far, driven by its critical mineral status, supply shortages and rising industrial and investor demand.
