The U.S. dollar rose against the Vietnamese dong on the black market Saturday morning.

The greenback was sold 0.35% higher at VND25,850 at unofficial exchange points.

Vietcombank kept its rate unchanged at VND25,538.

The State Bank of Vietnam’s reference rate was steady at VND24,322.

The dollar has risen 5.77% since the beginning of the year.

Globally the dollar index, which measures the currency against six other major currencies, eased 0.06%, with a 0.2% weekly gain, and showed a 6.6% 2024 gain, Reuters reported.

Fed Chair Jerome Powell said earlier this month that U.S. central bank officials "are going to be cautious about further cuts" after an as-expected quarter-point rate reduction.
