The U.S. dollar fell slightly against the Vietnamese dong but remained stable against major currencies on Friday morning.

Vietcombank sold the dollar at VND25,467, down 0.02% from Thursday.

The greenback surged by 0.7% to VND25,800 on the black market.

The State Bank of Vietnam lowered its reference rate by 0.02% to VND24,255.

The dollar has increased by 4.29% against the dong in the year to date.

Globally, the dollar was on the defensive on Friday following its biggest drop in a month against major peers, as it tracked a retreat in U.S. yields from nearly three-month highs after depressed Treasury prices drew buyers, Reuters reported.

The dollar index, which measures the currency against six major peers, was little changed at 104.06 after retreating from Wednesday's three-month peak of 104.57. For the week though, it has advanced 0.56%.

The dollar was flat at 151.835 yen, and the euro edged down 0.04% to $1.082325.

Sterling dipped 0.06% to $1.2969, but also edged away from a two-month trough of $1.2908 hit on Wednesday. It was headed for a 0.6% weekly fall.

The 1-month non-deliverable forward indicated that the Indian rupee will open nearly unchanged at 84.0775 in the previous session.
