The U.S. dollar on Thursday morning strengthened against the Vietnamese dong and surged to a six-week high among major peers.

Vietcombank sold the dollar at VND24,905, up 0.34% from Wednesday.

The State Bank of Vietnam raised its reference rate by 0.09% to VND24,115.

The greenback fell 0.60% to VND25,050 on the black market.

It has risen 1.9% against the dong since the beginning of the year.

Globally the dollar scaled a more than six-week high versus the yen on Thursday as robustness in the U.S. jobs market reinforced bets the Federal Reserve will not rush to cut interest rates, Reuters reported.

The dollar index, which measures the currency against the euro, yen and four other top rivals, added 0.12% to 101.77, and earlier pushed to a three-week high of 101.80.
