The U.S. dollar rose slightly against the Vietnamese dong Friday morning as it edged higher against major currencies.

Vietcombank sold the greenback at VND26,383, up 0.008% from Thursday. The currency rose 0.22% to around VND27,014 on the black market.

The State Bank of Vietnam increased its reference rate by 0.008% to VND25,127.

Globally, the U.S. dollar stood tall on Friday ahead of a crucial jobs report, while investors girded for a Supreme Court ruling on the legality of President Donald Trump's sweeping global tariff that jolted markets last year, Reuters reported.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was up 0.2% at 98.883, rising for a third consecutive day.

Against the yen, the dollar was little changed at 156.885 yen. The euro was steady at $1.1657.

The British pound edged 0.1% lower to $1.3436, the Australian dollar was flat at $0.6698, and the New Zealand dollar ticked down 0.1% to $0.5749.

The looming U.S. non-farm payrolls report for December will dispel much of the data fog that persisted during the government shutdown, but analysts said nuances in the data may do little to clarify the path forward for interest rates.

"Barring a dramatic data print, the more impactful number is likely to be the unemployment rate," analysts from ING wrote in a research report.
