Information technology is the industry with the highest recruitment demand this year with 14 percent increase compared to last year.

According to a recent report of ManpowerGroup Vietnam, a human resource solutions provider, many employers stated the number of qualified candidates is limited. Also, many businesses have difficulty in recruiting and retaining people by raising salary.

The company mentioned that the number of recruitment requests of information technology (IT) workforce it received from customers in 2018 nearly three times higher than 2017.

According to a recent report of IT recruiting firm TopDev, the IT sector generally faces a big shortage as demand is set to go up from 320,000 engineers this year to 400,000 in 2020.

The shortfall is 75,000 this year, and set to increase to 100,000 in 2020. This leaves employers considering paying higher salaries to lure away people. The average salary for experienced IT engineers now is $1,318.

Tran Anh Tuan, deputy director of the center for forecasting human resource and labor market information in Ho Chi Minh City, assessed that this year recruitment demand has reached the highest in the last three years.

He added that this is the year that labor demand is closely tied with the city’s economic growth rate.

Software engineering, information security, e-commerce, digital marketing, architecture - construction, and tourism will have high recruitment rate as these industries are developing rapidly.

On the other hands, state-owned enterprises will recruit human resources in economy, finance and technology background.

The private sector with more than 300,000 companies will also focus on hiring employees in the same fields, according to the forecast.

Tuan also mentioned that some industries currently have excess human resources. Therefore, he advised graduates if they could not find the right job in their field of study, then they could move to other industries with high recruitment rate this year.
