Vietnam needs 4,000 workers for 2 nuclear plants

Nearly 4,000 employees will be needed to operate Vietnam’s two nuclear plants, both planned to be built in the central province of Ninh Thuan by 2030.

Of then, 670 will get specialized training abroad.

Over half of the 4,000 will be engineers or have bachelor’s degrees, while the remainder will have two-year college degrees.

Those selected for overseas training will mostly be graduates in related fields who commit to working at the plants post-training.

First- and second-year university students may also be chosen for training abroad if they are willing to work at the plants after completion.

Civil servants, experts and staff from relevant ministries, training institutions and research facilities will provide short-term training and internships to develop expertise in nuclear plant management and operations.

Around 120 lecturers will also be needed to teach nuclear science to master’s and doctoral students at universities.

The government has revived the Ninh Thuan nuclear power plants, with the National Assembly approving its proposal in November.

The first plant is scheduled to begin generating electricity in 2030.
