The southern province of Dong Nai has sought approval from the government to build two rail routes at a cost of VND91.39 trillion ($3.96 billion).

They include a 37.5-km light rail between Thu Duc City in HCMC and Long Thanh International Airport in Dong Nai at a cost of VND40.57 trillion ($1.76 billion) and a 65-km rail route between Trang Bom District and the Cai Mep-Thi Vai International Port in the neighboring province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau at a cost of VND50.822 trillion ($2.2 billion).

To be built through public-private partnerships, they are expected to be operational by 2025 when the first phase of the airport is built, provincial authorities said.

The two are in a list of national projects by the Ministry of Transport seeking foreign investment in 2021-25 and a national plan for developing railroad networks in 2021-30.

The latter envisages the southern region having four rail routes by 2030.
