Nearly 67,100 enterprises were established in the first half of this year, a year-on-year rise of 8 percent, despite Covid-19 outbreaks.

This is the highest number of newly established enterprises ever, according to the Business Registration Management Agency under the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

Despite the fourth Covid-19 wave hitting late April, the number of new enterprises rose in many localities. The year-on-year rise in the northern province of Bac Giang was nearly 12 percent, while it was up five and one percent in HCMC and the northern province of Bac Ninh, respectively.

The total registered capital of businesses formed nationwide in the first half of the year was VND942 trillion (over $40.9 billion), up 34 percent year-on-year.

The number of new firms in real estate trading surged the most at 44.8 percent, followed by those in healthcare, education and warehousing. Meanwhile, the number of new enterprises in the field of production and distribution dropped by nearly 50 percent, and a decline was also seen in accommodation, food and beverage, recruitment services, agriculture, forestry and fisheries sectors.

In the first half of this year, over 70,200 operational enterprises stopped operations or completed dissolution or waited for dissolution procedures, up nearly 25 percent.
