Premature redemption of corporate bonds rises by 6%

Companies have prematurely redeemed VND230.2 trillion (US$9.6 billion) worth of bonds this year, a 6% increase from 2022, according to data from the Ministry of Finance.

Of this, banks accounted for almost exactly half, property companies for 14% and construction companies for 13%.

MB Securities Company said in a note that in December alone companies paid out VND21.2 trillion for redemption, up 94% from November.

Ten days ago BCG Energy, an affiliate of Bamboo Capital Group, repaid two lots of bonds totally worth VND2.5 trillion. Earlier major property developer Phat Dat redeemed two issuances worth VND600 billion it had made in 2021.

According to VNDirect Securities Company, over VND297 trillion worth of bonds fall due in 2024.

This year VND245.9 trillion worth of corporate bonds were issued, 27% down from last year, data from the ministry showed.
