Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has asked American billionaire Bill Gates to consult for Vietnam on technology and innovation as the country seeks to prioritize their development.

He met the co-founder of Microsoft Corp on Sept. 20 during his working trip to the U.S. when he also called on him to continue to support startup activities, technology development, climate change response, green transition, renewable energy development, and healthcare and education in Vietnam.

He wanted the tech icon to inspire young Vietnamese to innovate.

Gates told the PM he had been watching Vietnam’s development in recent years, especially its economy and healthcare and response to the Covid-19 pandemic, and was highly appreciative of its achievements in these areas.

It was very important in the development strategy of Microsoft and his funds, he said.

He promised continued support for the country’s sanitation, clean water, environment, healthcare, AI efforts, and education.

He said he would deliver a message when the new facility of the National Innovation Center is completed.

The Gates Foundations, chaired by Bill Gates, focuses on activities like agricultural development, financial services for the poor, clean water and sanitation, education, health, and nutrition.

It also carries out activities in public health, focusing on infectious, common and tropical diseases.

It has been assisting Vietnam in combating climate change in the Mekong Delta using technology.
