Construction of the VND13.6 trillion ($587 million) HCMC- Moc Bai expressway is set to begin in 2023 and be completed in 2025.

Authorities in HCMC and Tay Ninh Province, where the Moc Bai Border Gate with Cambodia is located, are trying to complete procedures and the feasibility study this year. Compensation payments for land acquisition are expected to be completed next year so that the long-delayed project can begin construction in 2023.

The 53km expressway would run from Ring Road No.3 in the outlying district of Hoc Mon in HCMC to National Highway 22 at Moc Bai Border Gate Economic Zone in the southern province of Tay Ninh.

Highway 22 is currently the only road connecting HCMC with the Moc Bai Border Gate and is overloaded with traffic to and from Cambodia.

The new expressway is expected to reduce traffic congestion and improve connectivity between Tay Ninh and the Southern Key Economic Zone. It will have four lanes, allowing vehicles to travel at a maximum speed of 80 kph.

The expressway is to be built under the build-operate-transfer investment model, with the government funding land compensation.
