HCMC fruit vendor Hoa said last year U.S. cherry sold out quickly, and therefore she bought more this year, but sales have been slow.
"Supply has increased but demand has yet to match it, forcing sellers to reduce prices."
At retail chains such as MM Mega Market and Go!, Australian cherry prices have fallen to VND250,000–400,000 per kilogram from VND500,000 last year when they kept selling out.
Nguyen Thi Hang, a fruit vendor in HCMC, said the market this year is very competitive amid a surge in the imports of cherries, apples, kiwifruits, and grapes.
Vietnam imported $3 billion worth of fruits and vegetables last year, up 24% from 2024.
Global supply has generally been rising. In Chile, the world's largest cherry exporter, in the 2025–2026 season, the area under cherry is estimated to have increased by 4.6% to 80,000 hectares, and output by 6.7% to 730,000 tonnes, up according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Rapid growth in supply and a time when demand in key markets has not increased much, has pushed prices down in many places including Vietnam.
