The net worth of Vietnam's billionaires collectively grew by US$2.5 billion so far this month, driven by a robust stock market.

The country's five billionaires posted $21.2 billion in wealth, according to Forbes data, as Vietnam's benchmark stock index VN-Index surged 12% in the same period, hovering around the 2022 historic peak.

Pham Nhat Vuong, chairman of the country's largest private conglomerate Vingroup, remains the wealthiest individual, with a net worth of $11.9 billion.

He has gained $1.4 billion since the start of July and now ranks 228th among the world's richest.

His wealth surge is tied to the strong performance of Vingroup's stock, having risen over 19% since the month began.

Vuong directly holds 450 million VIC shares, representing 11.6% of Vingroup’s charter capital. He and his family maintain significant control over the conglomerate through other instruments.

Budget airline Vietjet chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao recorded the second-largest wealth increase among Vietnam’s billionaires, with her net worth rising by $700 million to $3.2 billion.

This marks the highest on-paper wealth for Thao, who first joined the billionaire list in 2017.

Vietjet and HDBank (where Thao is the deputy chairwoman) stocks have soared by 38% and 29.6%, respectively, in July.

Thao directly owns 47.7 million Vietjet shares but also holds hundreds of millions of shares in both companies through separate entities, contributing to her wealth growth.

Steelmaker Hoa Phat Group chairman Tran Dinh Long and Techcombank chairman Ho Hung Anh saw their wealth increase by $300 million and $100 million, respectively.

They now post $2.6 billion and $2.4 billion in wealth.

Masan Chairman Nguyen Dang Quang also added several tens of millions of dollars to his fortune, which is now at $1.1 billion.
