Vietnam’s first full-fledged carmaker has announced it will complete work on its factory in June, three months ahead of schedule.

The company said that positive results from cars it has sent overseas for quality inspections means that its production lines are ready, and it can push forward its Hai Phong factory’s completion by 3 months.

By the end of the first quarter of 2019, the company had sent batches of cars to 14 countries including Austria, Australia and South Korea for testing against local standards.

The car factory, on the other hand, will be divided into 5 workshops: stamping, welding bodywork, painting, engine manufacturing and assembly.

It is expected that in the first phase, the automobile manufacturing side of the complex will recruit 5,000 workers, have a total output of 250,000 vehicles each year. Production is set to reach 500,000 cars each year in the second phase, in 2025.

The automobile factory is being built in the company’s 335-hectare automobile and motorbike production complex in the Dinh Vu Industrial Park of northern Hai Phong City. Construction began in September 2017.

The company had showed off prototypes of its first two high-end car models (an SUV and sedan) at the Paris Motor Show in France last October, just a year after its incorporation. It also revealed seven more midrange models this January.

VinFast plans to officially begin selling the VinFast Fadil, a CUV model, in the second quarter of 2019. Pre-ordered VinFast sedans and SUVs will reach customers in the third quarter of 2019.
