Vietnam has 6 billionaires in Forbes global rich list

Six Vietnamese billionaires have made U.S. magazine Forbes’s rich list this year, with four of them increasing their net worth.

They are, in order of wealth, conglomerate Vingroup’s chairman Pham Nhat Vuong, VietJet Air CEO Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, steelmaker Hoa Phat’s chairman Tran Dinh Long, Techcombank’s chairman Ho Hung Anh, automaker Thaco’s chairman Tran Ba Duong, and retailer Masan’s chairman Nguyen Dang Quang.

Vuong, the richest man in the country, is worth US$4.4 billion, up 2.3% from last year. He has in this list for a 12th year.

Thao, also the vice chairwoman of HDBank, has a net worth of $2.8 billion, an increase of 27%.

Long’s net worth has increased by 44%to $2.6 billion.

Anh makes it to the list for a sixth time with a net worth of $1.7 billion, up 13%.

Quang and Duong are both worth $1.2 billion after their wealth declined by 8% and 20%.

Forbes assessed people’s wealth based on stock prices and currency exchange rates as of March 10.

Its list has 2,781 billionaires globally, 141 more than last year, with their combined assets at the highest ever level of $14.2 trillion despite inflation and geopolitical volatility thanks to the buoyant global stock markets.

The richest person on the planet is LVMH Chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault with assets of $233 billion. He is followed by Tesla CEO Elon Musk ($195 billion) and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos ($194 billion).
