Jensen Huang, president and CEO of chipmaker Nvidia, has seen his net worth surpassing US$100 billion for the first time as his company shares skyrocketed.

Huang’s net worth reached a new peak of $107 billion on Thursday before declining to $106 billion Friday, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

His assets have risen by 141% this year, making him the 13th richest person in the world.

Nvidia this week became the third U.S. company to reach the $3 trillion valuation milestone and surpassed Apple in value, second only behind Microsoft.

The price surge came after Nvidia announced that its next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) chip platform Rubin would be rolled out in 2026.

The Rubin family of chips will include new graphics and central processors as well as networking chips, Reuters reported.

Nvidia share is now traded around $1,203, triple year-on-year.

Huang, 61, founded Nvidia in 1993 to produce graphics chips for 3D gaming. This remains the company's largest business segment.

Nvidia has expanded into various fields such as the metaverse and chips for cryptocurrency mining.

Nvidia's turning point came at the end of 2022, when OpenAI launched ChatGPT, creating a global artificial intelligence craze.

OpenAI developed generative AI technology based on Nvidia's graphics chips. The company now holds 80% of the global AI chip market share.
