Starting Wednesday evening the Apple Online Store does not offer Vietnamese buyers the 8 GB option for the Macbook Air with the M3 chip.
The options start at 16 GB, which is now sold at the same price as the 8 GB version, VND27.9 million (US$1,100), down from VND32 million a day earlier.
This means Apple’s official website is selling the Macbook 3% lower than authorized resellers, an unusual occurrence.
An authorized reseller said Apple’s new pricing strategy would surely affect its ability to sell the remaining 8 GB products.
But the 16 GB version could sell well now that its prices are lower, it added.
Le Hieu, owner of a shop in Hanoi that sells Apple products, said he was "shocked" to see the Macbook Air price cut, and anticipated drops on the second-hand market.
Apple’s decision to offer 16 GB of memory or higher is expected to help boost the performance of its devices, especially with the introduction of new Apple Intelligence features.
