The price of Apple’s M2 MacBook Air has been cut by 17% since the new M3 is expected to be launched soon.

After the M3’s launch was announced earlier this month, all versions of the M2 have become VND3-5 million cheaper.

The 13-inch M2 MacBook Air is now VND24.5-24.9 million and the 15-inch version is VND28.5-28.9 million.

"A lot of people have bought the M2 MacBook Air after the prices were reduced," Nguyen Lac Huy, a representative of electronics retail chain CellphoneS, said.

"Sales of the model have surged by 2.5 times."

Hoang Tuan, the owner of a store selling Apple devices on Hanoi’s Hue Street, said buyers are turning to the M2 MacBook Air because the new M3 model is not too big an upgrade but is a few million dong more expensive.

The 15-inch version with the M2 chip is selling better since it would be discontinued soon, he said.

When the M3 MacBook Air was launched in early March, Apple compared the performance of the M3 to the M1 instead of the M2, leading to speculation it might not differ too much from the M2.

Thanh Chung, administrator of a forum with over 60,000 MacBook users, said: "The M3 MacBook Air will be a big upgrade for those with a M1 model. But if you are already using the M2 model, you can wait for a newer version."

Like the M2, the M3 also comes in 13-inch and 15-inch versions with suggested retail prices of VND28 million and VND33 million.

It is currently on sale only in some large markets and an official launch date for Vietnam has yet to be announced.
