Canadian billionaire Lawrence Ho Yau-lung sets up hospital in Macau resort

The 1,400-square-meter iRad Hospital, the world’s first integrated resort hospital equipped with MRI and CT facilities, was officially launched at resort and casino hub Studio City Monday, according to South China Morning Post.

It offers health screening, diagnostic imaging, aesthetic medicine, longevity treatments, and medical concierge services.

Black Spade in 2021 acquired a majority stake in iRad Medical Holding, which operates four listed locations in Hong Kong.

Macau in 2023 launched a diversification plan aiming to position the city as "one center" for integrated tourism and leisure while fostering four emerging industries to strengthen economic resilience.

The city’s casino revenues jumped by roughly 25% last year to MOP227 billion (US$28.3 billion), while the economy grew 8.8% to MOP403.3 billion.

Macau, which is expected to welcome about 39 million visitors this year, has strong potential to become a medical and wellness hub for both mainland Chinese and Southeast Asian travellers, said Dennis Tam, honorary chairman of iRad and president and CEO of Black Spade.

Lawrence Ho has a net worth of $1.1 billion. He is the chairman of Melco Resorts & Entertainment, one of six casino operators in Macau.
