Cybersecurity firm BKAV is developing 5G smartphones just to keep up with global trends, its CEO has said.

Nguyen Tu Quang said 5G smartphones have become a trend, and so BKAV would make them stay competitive in the market.

It is experts’ view that smartphones would help popularize 5G technology before it is widely used in other fields such as business and industry.

There is misunderstanding about 5G technology, he said. "Most people think that 5G is an upgrade of 3G and 4G.

"However, a 4G connection is enough for smartphone users to exploit all of the phone’s function and services, from watching movies to online meeting and studying."

5G is mainly needed for using internet of things in future for instance in smart cities and smart factories and not for smartphones, he explained.

Technology firm VinSmart, a subsidiary of Vietnam’s largest listed company, Vingroup, unveiled its first 5G smartphone, Vsmart Aris 5G, in June 2020. But it has not said when the phone would hit the market or how much it would cost.
