Airlines roll out free ticket promotions, discounts for year-end

Last Friday budget carrier Vietjet Air offered free tickets for flights from Hanoi to Phu Quoc in September.

But fees and taxes totaling VND640,000 (US$25.15) applied.

More free tickets are being offered on the same route in the last two months of 2024.

The airline is also offering discounted tickets at VND1.05 million for the Hanoi-Phu Quoc route in November and December.

Vietnam Airlines is selling tickets on Hanoi-Phu Quoc flights for VND1 million in September.

In comparison, the cheapest Hanoi-Phu Quoc flights in June-August are VND2.5 million on Vietnam Airlines and VND1.5 million on Vietjet.

Vietjet is offering free or discounted tickets on flights between HCMC and popular tourist destinations such as Nha Trang, Da Nang, Quy Nhon, and Hue in the last quarter.

Discounted tickets are also available on routes like Hanoi-HCMC, but only during early morning or late night hours, and Hanoi - Da Lat.

Hanoi - Phu Quoc has seen among the sharpest fare increases this year.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority, fares on the sector have jumped by nearly 50% from last year to VND1.8-2.7 million.

During peak seasons, like the Lunar New Year holidays in February, a round-trip ticket to the island cost VND6-7 million.

Since last year many businesses have complained about the high fares hitting tourism in Phu Quoc.

But the aviation authority has dismissed this, saying all airlines are in compliance with regulations.

It warned that fares might rise further during the upcoming summer travel season due to higher demand.
