Pham Thu Huong, wife of Vietnam’s richest man Pham Nhat Vuong, has seen her net worth surpass US$1 billion amid a surge in the price of Vingroup shares.

The share of Vietnam’s biggest private conglomerate closed 6% higher Thursday at a new all-time high of VND158,000, meaning Huong’s 170.6 million shares were worth VND26.95 trillion ($1.02 billion).

But U.S. magazine Forbes has not included her in its real-time billionaire list.

She has served as vice chairwoman of Vingroup since 2021. She graduated from Kiev State University in the Ukraine with a bachelor’s degree in international law.

In 2020 she co-founded the VinFuture Foundation with her husband to sponsor the global VinFuture science and technology prizes.

The rising share price also drove Pham Nhat Vuong’s wealth to a new high of $15.4 billion, making him the 168th richest man in the world.

Forbes determines personal net worth based on stock holding, stakes in private enterprises, real estate, artwork, and yachts.

Vingroup’s market cap is now at VND608.8 trillion making it the first Vietnamese company to do so.

Its share has been on a sharp upward trend for months, gaining 290% this year alone.

The company recently announced its entry into the energy sector with the Hai Phong LNG power plant with a capacity of 4,800 MW.

It reported after-tax profits of VND4.54 trillion on revenues of VND130.48 trillion for the first half of this year, with both figures doubling year-on-year.
