The 2024 season of Vietnam’s leading MMA tournament, LION Championship, kicks off in HCMC on April 13.

The organizers announced that LC12, the opening event, would take place at the Rach Mieu Sports Complex in Phu Nhuan District, HCMC.

The event will feature 12 fights in all men’s weight classes starting at either 3 p.m. or 8 p.m.

The highlight will be a fight between national jujitsu master Tran Ngoc Luong and Bui Truong Sinh, a student of Vietnmese-American action star and martial artist Johnny Tri Nguyen at his Lien Phong dojo.

Luong is one of the prominent names in Vietnamese MMA and a man with numerous international acheievements.

In the LION Championship, after improving his tier from B to A in the 2023 season, the 30-year-old scored two wins and is currently fifth in the men’s 60 kg standing.

Sinh’s current form is even more impressive: he is first in his weight class.

Last season he had one win by knockout and reached the title round where he was defeated by Brazil’s Robson de Oliveira Soares.

If Sinh beats Luong, he will get to fight Oliveira again.

Another notable fight will be between national jujutsu master Phan Thanh Tung and another man from Lien Phong dojo, Pham Ngoc Canh, in the 56 kg category.

Tung has been the national jujutsu master for three years in a row and is currently seventh in his weight class.

Canh is fourth.

In the 77 kg category, Dang Hoang Minh will face former U.S. marine Jesse James Bernal.
