Vietnamese singer's Chinese popularity continues with new show

Chi Pu initially became a foreign sensation of the border with her spellbinding performances on the uber popular Chinese reality TV music competition show "Women Who Make Waves."

The first episode of the new show, which aired earlier this month, features the Vietnamese singer exploring the culture and specialty dishes in China’s port city of Quanzhou. She was taken there by four other hosts, including Taiwanese singer Ella, Chinese TV personality Wu Xin, American rapper-singer of Taiwanese heritage Amber Liu, and Chinese actress Janice Wu.

The team is seen performing traditional dances with a group of local people and then wandering around the city to find the addresses given to them by the production team, which are three eateries. Among these addresses, two are established restaurants, while one is an imitation built by the production team.

The team will have to find out which restaurant is the "counterfeit" after trying dishes served at the places.

"[I go] To Quanzhou, see beautiful landscapes, fill our stomachs with food, and laugh out loud with sisters," Chi Pu wrote on her Facebook, expressing her emotions after completing the first phase in her journey with the show.

Next episodes of the show are set to broadcast in the following weeks.

Chi Pu, 30, is an actress and pop singer. She was honored on the Forbes’ list of the Asia Pacific's 100 most influential digital stars in 2020.

She made her debut in the Chinese market with her appearance in "Sisters Who Make Waves," one of the most famous reality shows in China. Her musical performances throughout the show gained a lot of attention from local audiences, and she won sixth place at the conclusion of the show.
