In the history of AFF Cup, Vietnam and Philippines clashed four times, with two wins for each team.

Coach Sven-Goran Eriksson said Vietnam is a formidable opponent but beatable. Vietnamese coach and players said the game would be challenging but they believe in a good result.

Vietnam are the only team not conceding any goal in the group stage of this year ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Championship. Philippines meanwhile have been the dark horse of the game. They finished second in group B, above stronger teams like Indonesia and Singapore, to qualify for the semis.

After the first leg in the Philippines's Bacolod on December 2, the second leg of the semifinal will be played at the My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi on December 6.
