A 21-gun salute was fired at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long as Vietnamese Party chief To Lam and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping participate in a flag salutation ceremony.

This will be Xi's 4th state visit to Vietnam as China's General Party Secretary, which happens less than a year after To Lam's state visit to China.
The two leaders are expected to discuss about ways to boost relations between Vietnam and China in multiple fields.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son said the visit would be an important political event for Vietnam and China, with strategic meaning and long-term impacts on the development of the Vietnam-China relations.
