Vietnam suffer 0-4 defeat against Iran in Asian Games football

Iran had full control of Thursday match against Vietnam to secure a big win and a ticket to the next round of the 19th Asiad's men's football.

    Iran scored the third goal

    Mehdi Hashemnejad dribbled at the edge of the box before curling it into the left corner, beating keeper Van Chuan. There was a slight deflection off a Vietnam defender which made it harder for Chuan to save it even though he got a little touch on the ball.

On FIFA rankings, Iran are 22nd and only behind Japan in Asia. Their Olympic team don't have the same power as the senior, but are always highly rated at Asian Games. They have won gold medals four times and entered the round of 16 at the most recent edition in Jakarta in 2018.

Facing the strongest team of group B, Vietnam will have to get a different approach compared to the last game against Mongolia and hope to earn at least one point, in order to increase their chance of moving past the group stage.
