In the early match of Group F on Tuesday, Malaysia beat Nepal 1-0 and widened the gap with Vietnam to six points. Therefore, coach Kim Sang-sik and his team must get points against Laos in the away game on Wednesday.

Laos are considered the weakest in the group, having not earned any points after four consecutive losses. In the first leg at Go Dau Stadium, Ho Chi Minh City, they were crushed 0-5 by Vietnam. In the past two decades, Laos have not been able to get a point against Vietnam at any level.
