The 2026 U23 Asian Cup kicks off just over half a month after Vietnam won the SEA Games gold medal in Thailand. Under coach Kim Sang-sik, Vietnam have won all 11 matches at the U23 level in official tournaments. Before the SEA Games, the team also won the 2025 ASEAN U23 Championship.

Coach Kim believes Vietnam are the weakest team in Group A, after Kyrgyzstan, Jordan and host Saudi Arabia, but this cannot hinder their ambition to reach the quarterfinals. History shows that Vietnam have not lost in their opening match in the last three U23 Asian Cup editions. Vietnam have also advanced from the group stage in three of the last four tournaments.

Jordan have also not won in their last four matches in the U23 Asian Cup. Two years ago, they drew one, lost two, and were eliminated early in the group stage. However, Vietnam previously lost to this opponent 1-3 in the group stage in 2016, and then drew 0-0 in 2020. Jordan have made significant progress over the past three years, making them one of the most advanced teams in Asia.
