Going up against the defending champions U.S. and also the number one team on world ranking, Vietnam's chance to even get a draw is slim.
This is Vietnam's first World Cup, while the U.S. have played every single tournament and won four titles.
In the previous World Cup, another Southeast Asian team, Thailand, were thrashed 0-13 by the U.S. in the group stage.
Vietnam head coach Mai Duc Chung said the team had no expectations regarding the result of the U.S. game, but were excited to test their playing style and spirit.
"The U.S. outrank us. But we did not come here to be tourists," he said. "Our first goal is to limit goals conceded and avoid injuries. If we can score, it will be amazing."
